Passive and Active Consumption

Theory; Passive and Active Consumption

Passive
  • Likely to agree
The audience takes in the information and doesn't think to question it. They may see the headline and take it as that. They would not read into the article and take it as how they see it. This may mean that it may be an older audience as they would be said to not be as savvy as the younger generation when using social media. What they are reading could be positive or negative.

Active
  • Likely to question
The audience will question what they are given and does not take it as a direct message. This means that they may have seen the same piece of information differently, or they may only have read the headline, which they would want to read the article and make their mind up. As what they may be seeing, may be positive or negative, so they would need justification with what they have seen.
